Saturday 16th February 08
Smith nets four.
The last encounter between Newcastle and Sennybridge was a disaster when the game was abandoned in the second half, by Knighton referee Dave Bywater. This time referee Paul Mantle was able to keep all his cards in his pocket for the whole game. Newcastle won this sporting home encounter in convincing style five goals to two, with Luke Smith scoring four. Sennybridge started well by dominating the play and bringing two excellent saves from Dave Exell the Newcastle net minder. Sennybridge took the lead from the penalty spot and then scored again five minutes later to open up a two goal margin. Newcastle hit back, five minutes before half time, through a Carl Price shot that rebounded off the crossbar for Luke Smith to open Newcastle’s account. The second half was all Newcastle, a snap shot from Smith to equalise. Michael Brick then curled a free kick into the area for Smith to volley into the roof of the net to complete his hat trick. Newcastle’s fourth came from the boot of Jimmy Thomas from a Ben Harvey cross, and the fifth from Smith again.
