Penalty save gives Newcastle hope.
Newcastle entertained league leaders Rhayader Town in a close encounter at the Mill Field. Despite going down by a goal to nil, Newcastle played some of their best football this season striving to beat a team that has so far not lost in the league. Rhayader took the lead after ten minutes from a set piece free kick on the edge of the box. Newcastle battled valiantly to get back on terms, Jimmy Thomas had the best chance of the half when he headed over with no-one to beat. Fifteen minutes into the second half Rhayader were awarded a penalty, as a result of a clumsy tackle by Craig Morris. The resultant spot kick was magnificently saved by Newcastle keeper Dave Exell, who inspired Newcastle to make a further great effort. In the dying seconds of the game Newcastle hit the post to deny them a point. Manager John Goodridge praised his team’s performance as the one of the best this season. Tom Bright, Matthew Jones, Jimmy Thomas and Dave Exell excelled for Newcastle.
Newcastle are away at Gwernyfed (Talgarth) on Saturday 15th , Kick off 2.30pm.
