Newcastle Football Club
Watson Associates Mid Wales League South
Newcastle 2, Presteigne Reserves 0.
Saturday 5th January 2008
Newcastle returned to winning ways when they entertained a lively Presteigne Reserves side at the Mill Field, in the Watson Associates Mid-Wales League South. John Goodridge’s side struggled to play constructive football on a wet heavy pitch but took the lead on the stroke of half time, when Mark Jones once again was Newcastle’s salvation with another of his fine solo efforts. The bravery of the Presteige keeper was in no doubt as he dived at the feet of Newcastle’s attackers on more than one occasion. Presteigne put up a lively spirited display, and at times had the lions share of possession. A rasping shot rattled the Newcastle crossbar and then they managed to bundle both ball and Newcastle keeper David Exell across the line, only to have the goal disallowed for a foul on the keeper. Newcastle however sealed the win with a goal from Craig Morris half way into the second half.
Newcastle are at home to Builth Wells next Saturday, kick off 2.00pm.
