Mid Wales League South

Penybont 1. Newcastle 0.

Tuesday 4th September 2007

Newcastle’s first away game of the season, in the Watson Associates Mid Wales League South, ended in their first defeat at the hands of a very competent Penybont side. Newcastle started slowly and after only a few minutes went a goal down when an opportunist shot from 20 yards beat goalkeeper manager John Goodridge. Newcastle went close to scoring the equaliser when Mark Jones’ free kick was brilliantly saved. At half time Penybont just about deserved their lead. In the second half Newcastle showed more mettle and were the better side but the goals just would not come. Mark Jones went close with a number of attempts on goal. Jimmy Thomas and Craig Morris performed well in mid-field and Michael Brick and Phil Morris held the back line steady. Manager John Goodridge commented after the game that Newcastle deserved at least a point from the encounter.

Newcastle’s next match is away at Builth Wells, on Saturday 8th September, kick off 3.00pm.
