J Emrys Morgan Cup Round 2
Newcastle 4, Padarn United 1.
Saturday 3rd November 2007
Mark the difference.
Newcastle played hosts to Padarn United, who are currently top of the Aberystwyth League second division, in the second round of the J Emrys Morgan Cup. Newcastle started well, created numerous chances and looked to be in control of the game, when the unthinkable happened. Padarn’s only attack on the Newcastle goal resulted in them taking the lead from a corner kick to the far post, headed back across the area and scrambled past the hapless John Goodridge in the Newcastle goal. Newcastle’s half time pep talk seemed to do the trick. Straight from the restart Newcastle equalised when Mark Jones scored from an Edgar Whately pass. Newcastle played more confidently after the equaliser and half way through the half Edgar Whately headed home a Mark Jones cross for Newcastle to take the lead. Padarn fought back magnificently and put the Newcastle goal under considerable pressure in a ten minute spell. However, as Newcastle gained control, a Newcastle free kick was headed on to Mark Jones who lobbed the advancing keeper to give Newcastle a clear two-goal lead. Just before the end Carl Price broke through the defence and put the game beyond doubt with a well-taken goal. Newcastle defenders Tom Bright and Richard Jones played well, as did Jimmy Thomas and Craig Morris in midfield, man of the match was undoubtedly Mark Jones.
Newcastle is at home to Newbridge Reserves on Saturday 10th kick off 2.30pm.
