Newcastle Football Club

Watson Associates Mid Wales League South.

Newcastle 0, Gwernyfed 0.

Saturday 15 September 07

Honours even.

Newcastle’s defence kept a clean sheet  for the third time in four games, but failed to score for the second time this season. Visitors Gwernyfed came full of confidence after their draw with Rhosgoch, and Newcastle were equally buoyed by their magnificent win at Builth Wells the week before. The game was a good clean contest with both sides playing some delightful football. A Gwernyfed free kick from 25 yards brought the best out of goalkeeper and manager John Goodridge. At the other end, Newcastle’s Luke Smith went very close indeed with a cheeky chip that had the Gwernyfed keeper at sixes and sevens. In the second period both sides had chances but could not get that vital breakthrough. Youngsters Neil Morris and Tom Bright had excellent defensive games and were equally well supported by stalwart defenders Phil Morris and Michael Brick.

Next Saturday Newcastle are away at Llandrindod Wells Colts, kick off 3.00pm.
